Quinoa is known as the mother of cereals although in reality it is an easily digestible seed. It has been cultivated and domesticated from around 6000 years ago in the Andes and then by the Incas who used to offer it to ‘Inti’ the Sun God. It is one of the most versatile and flavorsome foods, which is why, along with its superb nutritional and medicinal properties in 2013 it was declared the year of the Quinoa by the U.N from where this crop gained super-star status.
This crop contains essential carbohydrates protein and fiber which are high in quality and quantity as well as numerous vitamins. It said that it has more nutrients than spinach and that is healthier than milk. Quinoa is exceptional for children as it has all of the 8 amino acids needed for their growth. It is antispasmodic, galactophorous, laxative and diuretic. It is good for bruises and contusions. It is gluten free and some doctors say that prevents cancer.
